District Policy
COLORADO OPEN RECORDS ACT
Anyone can request public information possessed by a government office. The District fulfills every request
for public information as quickly and efficiently as possible, within the requirements established in
the Colorado Open Records Act (CORA), C.R.S. 24‐72‐201 et seq. The District is not subject to the Federal
Freedom of Information Act. However, it is subject to the Colorado Public (Open) Record statute (C.R.S. 24‐
702). Requests will be filled in compliance with this and any other Colorado statutes that may apply.
The Library Director is responsible for the maintenance, care and keeping of the District’s public records and
as such is designated as the “Official Custodian”. As permitted under Colorado state law, the District charges
a fee for Colorado Open Records Act (CORA) requests. The fee is a nominal charge that is intended to cover
at least a portion of the costs the District incurs in responding to a CORA request. There is no charge for
CORA requests that take less than one hour to complete. CORA requests that take longer than one hour of
District staff time for the research and compilation of documents are subject to a nominal charge of $33.58 per
hour.
