Proposition 101 and Amendments 60 and 61 Opposition Campaign Update

Publication Date:
July, 2010

As previously reported in past SDA Newsletters, the SDA Board has voted to oppose Proposition 101, and Amendments 60 and 61. The Board believes these three ballot initiatives would be destructive and prohibit special districts from providing services to their constituents.

Here’s a brief recap and as always, more can be found at www.donthurtcolorado.com.

Brief recap:

  • The campaign is currently working on buying the commercial ad space, before the commercial rates increase in August after the primary season. The campaign hopes to have the ad space secured in July. The television media will be a major part of the campaign to educate voters on the issues.
  • SDA’s Executive Director Ann Terry and representatives from our partners in the campaign are traveling around the state to meeting with groups of stakeholders and interested parties.
  • These meetings will help with fundraising and will educate community leaders on the destruction of government these ballot measures will create if passed.
  • The campaign is actively looking for individual and corporate donors to help raise the $7 million needed to fund the statewide campaign to defeat 60, 61 and 101.
  • The campaign is meeting with local chambers of commerce and economic development representatives around the state as well as groups of key constituents.
  • The campaign is creating a tool kit about the initiatives that can be used by others wanting to get the word out.

If you would like to have someone come and speak about these issues to a group in your community, please contact Ann Terry at the SDA office at (303) 863-1733 or check out the campaign website at http://www.donthurtcolorado.com.
