March, 2010 Special district financial statements must be audited annually by a CPA, unless you apply for and are granted an exemption from audit by the State Auditor. The application deadline is March 31, 2010, and failure to file the application for exemption from audit will cause the district to lose its exemption for fiscal years 2009 and 2010.
According to the Colorado Local Government Audit Law, the application for exemption must be personally reviewed, approved, and signed by a majority of the members of the district board of directors.
