The second year of the SDA University will include two class levels, 101 and 202. The 101 level will be for those new to special districts or those who want a refresher, and will cover some of the issues special districts encounter frequently. The following topics will be presented for the 101-class level:

  • Reducing your operating budget
  • Bonds
  • Board basics
  • Choosing an auditor
  • Real property
  • Special district insurance issues
  • Elections and campaigns
  • Grant writing
  • TABOR

The 202-class level will be for those who may have attended the SDA University last year and want to dig deeper into the more complex issues special district face. The following topics will be presented for the 202-class level:

  • Fiscal restraint when spending taxpayer money
  • Avoiding hiring mistakes
  • Mechanics of, and issues related to, special assessment financing
  • Credit cards for special districts
  • TABOR
  • Avoiding a PR nightmare

We hope that the classes offered at this year’s SDA University appeal to those who are new to special districts and those who are veterans.
