Highlands Ranch is putting its name in the hat in the hopes of being chosen as Google’s launching point for an ultra high-speed broadband network.
Highlands Ranch officials are rallying the community to help catch the Internet giant’s attention by placing residents in a formation that spells out “We Love Google” at a local football stadium.
Other communities nationwide also have used several unique tactics to attract Google, which is searching for a test community to introduce the Google Fiber Initiative. The 1 Gig Fiber connection would bring Internet speeds up to 100 times faster than existing networks.
The Highlands Ranch Community Association is working with a team of community volunteers, Douglas County, the Highlands Ranch Metro District, the Douglas County School District and the Highlands Ranch Library to submit an application on behalf of the unincorporated area.
“We have been shooting video all week, and are planning a rally at our St Patty’s run on the 20th,” said Jamie Noebel, community relations manager for the HRCA. The community association is asking residents to go to its Web site www.hrcaonline.org to fill out a nomination form for Highlands Ranch.
Community leaders see the contest as an opportunity to attract businesses, improve schools, the local health care system and government agencies and increase property values.
