Amendment 60

SDA is actively opposing Proposition 101, Amendment 60 and Amendment 61 which will be decided by voters in November. In order to provide more detailed information on some of the major problems with these initiatives, Sherman & Howard has created an advisory that SDA would like to share with our members. It is important that voters across Colorado understand the negative ramifications of this trio of ballot issues.

This November, the citizens of Colorado will be responsible for deciding on three important ballot issues: Proposition 101, Amendment 60 and Amendment 61. This trio of initiatives could prevent the State of Colorado and local governments from providing basic, necessary services to its citizens. The Special District Association is actively participating in a campaign to oppose these Amendments and is focusing our bulletins this week on discussion of the issues in question.

Highlands Ranch hopes to catch Google’s eye

Highlands Ranch is putting its name in the hat in the hopes of being chosen as Google’s launching point for an ultra high-speed broadband network.

Highlands Ranch officials are rallying the community to help catch the Internet giant’s attention by placing residents in a formation that spells out “We Love Google” at a local football stadium.

SDA and Mountain States Employers Council Form an Alliance

SDA and Mountain States Employers Council (MSEC) are pleased to announce a new alliance for all Special District Association members.


As part of your SDA membership, you are eligible to take advantage of the MSEC small employer’s membership at a 45% discount. Special districts that have 10 or fewer employees can join under this alliance. This special membership includes 10 hours of hands-on professional consultation, and access to other HR and Employment Law trainings and resources.

News Alert: Narcotics Thieves

Officials in Westminster are reporting that at least two ambulances have had narcotics stolen from them in the last month. There is some fear that the thieves may be impersonating fire personnel in connection to these thefts. Fire districts and ambulance districts should be aware of the situation and keep an eye out for suspicious activity.

Reminder to Submit SDA Annual Conference Speaker/Topic Ideas

The Special District Association will hold its 34th Annual Conference September 22-24, 2010 at the Keystone Resort and Conference Center. Planning is already under way and we want member input!


SDA is looking for your ideas on session topics and speakers for the conference. A wide range of topics and speakers are needed, so we encourage members to submit a variety of proposals.

Training Opportunity

There is a great training opportunity being offered by the Emergency Services Public Information Officers of Colorado (ESPIOC) this May 13-14, focusing on crisis communication, media relations and communicating with new technology. The conference, titled “Riding the Waves of Change” will be held at the Vail Cascade Resort.

Educating About Special Districts

Special District Association Executive Director Ann Terry, SDA General Counsel Mary Zuchegno and Manager of Public Information Annie Skinner will be participating in the Colorado Municipal League’s Lunch and Learn program on Metropolitan Districts on March 19th, 2010 at 11:30am. This will be a great opportunity to educate attendees on the many contributions metropolitan districts make in the development and growth in Colorado.
